AUDIO AND PRODUCTION

Audio Engineering

Henry has been doing audio engineering and recording since he was 16 when he started creating virtual performances for his high school during the COVID pandemic. He has organized and lead projects featuring over 50 people, recorded orchestras featuring LA Philharmonic Orchestra and LA Chamber Orchestra members, and has worked alongside professionals ranging from Disney audio engineers to TV composers. Furthermore, Henry has had the opportunity to mix movie scores for composers at UCLA and film makers at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. Henry has experience in recording string quartets, percussion instruments, full orchestras, and a solo baroque bassoon. He's also worked on more unconventional projects such as mixing the audio for the 2022 La Cañada Flintridge Rose Parade Float.

In February of 2022, Henry was accepted into Indiana University Jacobs School of Music where he will be majoring in Audio Engineering and Sound Production.

Project Showcase #1: A Charlie Brown Christmas Mini Album (2022)

As I started learning more and more at Jacobs School of Music, I wanted to do a small, and relatively easy project here to get to know the gear and the system more. I served as the organizer and producer of this project. We recorded all 3 pieces in November and they were released in a playlist on December 7th, 2022.

The first 3 videos are the 3 pieces we recording and the last one is a behind the scenes video that I threw together with some extra footage.

Project Showcase #2: Carpe Diem String Quartet (2022)

In December of 2022, I was asked to mix a pair of recordings of compositions by Sydney Wang peroformed by the Carpe Diem String Quartet (https://www.cdsq.org/) recorded in Siena, Italy.

The piece, Book of Hours, featured 2 movements, Golden Hour and Dusk.

Project Showcase #2: The Hologram/ Binary Sunset

Multitrack Video (2022)

Building upon my previous Star Wars project, I came out of that knowing I wanted to do another while making substantial upgrades to the quality of the overall project. This project was started in late June of 2022 finally found enough time to create it right before I left for my freshmen year of college.. In July of 2022, I assembled 18 people ranging from upcoming juniors in high school to LA Chamber Orchestra members to record 35 parts over 6 days at LCHS. Once all the parts were recorded, I edited, mixed, and mastered the audio in Logic Pro X at home. I then edited the entire video production in Adobe Premiere Pro. I finally released this project on August 8, 2022.

The first video here is the production. The second video is a behind the scenes video which covers everything from recording to mixing to mastering and to editing the video.

Project Showcase #3: The Dune Sea of Tatooine Multitrack Video (2021)

This project was started back in May of 2021 when I had the desire to finally record a Star Wars piece. As a huge Star Wars fan, it had been a dream of mine to record and produce a track from the film. In June of 2021, I assembled 18 people ranging from upcoming juniors in high school to LA Chamber Orchestra members to record 35 parts over 3 days at LCHS. Once all the parts were recorded, I edited, mixed, and mastered the audio in Logic Pro X at home. I then edited the entire video production in Adobe Premiere Pro. I finally released this project on September 18, 2021.

The first video here is the production. The second video is a behind the scenes video from the recording sessions where the set up of the LCHS studio can be seen.

Project Showcase #4: The Return of the Canceled Concerto Concert Recordings (2022)

In early June of 2022, I was given the opportunity to record a concert that was being performed at my school. The concert featured youth players during the first half and three concertos with a full orchestra (including members of the LA Phil) during the second half. Using equipment listed above from the LCHS studio, in addition to some microphones provided by the concert organizers, I recorded the entire concert, organized the filming of the concert, and mixed the recordings at my own home. I also played horn II in this concert along with Jim Thatcher.

Project Showcase #5: The Abyss Multitrack Video (2020-2021)

I started this project in November of 2020 by transcribing "Bud on the Ledge" from the Abyss soundtrack composed by Alan Silvestri. By the middle of January I had received 56 recordings from our orchestra, chamber singers, and members of the LCHS band. With the exception of percussion, all the instruments and voices you hear were recorded at home using phones and tablets with a very specific set of instructions and click tracks that I provided. I mixed the audio and edited the video all at home and released it on March 21, 2021.

Project Showcase #6: Film and Animation (2021-2022)

Over the last two years, I've had the opportunity to mix film scores composed by UCLA Composition Major Sydney Wang (https://soundcloud.com/sydneyswang). The first 3 audio files was for a film that was created in 2021 called "Sunset" and the second was for the film "Paths" directed by Jessica Asuelime (UCLA Animation Major).

Project Showcase #7: LCHS Instrumental Music Program

Recordings (2022)

During the second semester of my senior year in high school, I began recording concerts by throwing together a make shift rig as seen in the video under "Henry's Equipment" above. I successfully recorded three concerts with assistant engineers running sound while I performed with my respective ensembles. The video was filmed with my GoPro. In addition to this, I recorded the audio of our winter Drumline and mixed it at home.

Project Showcase #8:

La Cañada Flintridge Rose Parade Float (2022 Parade)

In December of 2021, I edited and mixed the soundtrack that would be pumped out of the massive speakers of the La Cañada Flintridge Tournament of Roses Association's (LCFTRA) Rose Parade Float as it went down the parade route. My mix could be heard on the parade route by the over 700k attendees and over 40 million more people on international television.
